龍與蛇在形態上有相似的地方，形容了得的書法為筆走龍蛇。
龍可以上天下海，是神獸，尊貴獨特的吉祥物。古代帝王穿的是龍袍，坐龍的是龍椅，以示非比常人。蛇的身份則差矣，蛇會傷人，毒蛇更是致命的，是人的大敵。
龍蛇混雜，大意是好的壞的都混在一起。
聖經中影響人類歷史的重要角色就是蛇，三言兩語便能誘使夏娃違命吃禁果，令人所有人都變成罪人。有關蛇的故事也有不少。
較為經典的是出埃及時摩西在法老面前將杖變成蛇(出埃及記 7)；耶和華派蛇去懲罰在曠野的以色列民(民數記 21)，神叫摩西造銅蛇救以列民，到希西家年代，以色列除拜金牛犢外，另一膜拜的是銅蛇像(列王記下 18:4)。
蛇在英文翻譯有不同的名稱。在 NIV 譯本中就有 snake, serpent, viper, cobra and adder，跟中文在翻譯上存在一些問題。利未記 11:30 中的蛇醫，英文譯本是 skink，意思是小蜥蜴，不是蛇。
英文譯本中有蛇的經文共有 63 節，舊約 48 節，新約 15 節，在舊約中較為活躍。龍只在新約啟示錄才出現，共 13 節。但中文譯本舊約中有將毒蛇譯作『火焰的飛龍』，『火蛇』及『大魚』。啟示錄中的龍就是古蛇，也就是撒但，魔鬼。

- 並沒有得勝、天上再沒有他們的地方。
- 大龍就是那古蛇、名叫魔鬼、又叫撒但、是迷惑普天下的．他被摔在地上、他的使者也一同被摔下去。
- 我聽見在天上有大聲音說、我 神的救恩、能力、國度、並他基督的權柄、現在都來到了．因為那在我們 神面前晝夜控告我們弟兄的、已經被摔下去了。
- 弟兄勝過他、是因羔羊的血、和自己所見證的道．他們雖至於死、也不愛惜性命。
- 所以諸天和住在其中的、你們都快樂罷．只是地與海有禍了、因為魔鬼知道自己的時候不多、就氣忿忿的下到你們那裡去了。
- 龍見自己被摔在地上、就逼迫那生男孩子的婦人。
- 於是有大鷹的兩個翅膀賜給婦人、叫他能飛到曠野、到自己的地方、躲避那蛇．他在那裡被養活一載二載半載。
- 蛇就在婦人身後、從口中吐出水來像河一樣、要將婦人沖去。
- 地卻幫助婦人、開口吞了從龍口吐出來的水。〔原文作河〕
- 龍向婦人發怒、去與他其餘的兒女爭戰、這兒女就是那守 神誡命、為耶穌作見證的。那時龍就站在海邊的沙上。
